Viking Expands Again, Meet the Honir and the Thoth
A Stylish Expansion Across Europe and Egypt
Viking is turning heads once again, this time with two new river ships stepping into the spotlight on opposite sides of the world. The Viking Honir and Viking Thoth have officially joined the fleet, bringing fresh style and new opportunities for travelers eager to explore legendary waterways.
In Basel, the Viking Honir made its grand entrance, sporting the clean Scandinavian look cruisers know and adore. Hosting 190 guests, the ship is purpose-built for the Rhine, Main and Danube, complete with airy staterooms, true two-room suites and that ever-popular Aquavit Terrace for sunset views that pair beautifully with a glass of something chilled. Honir is set to sail crowd-pleasing routes like Passage to Eastern Europe, Rhine Getaway and the always enchanting Christmas on the Rhine.

Meanwhile, down in Cairo, the Viking Thoth began its journey at the Massara shipyard. Designed specifically for the Nile, it offers an intimate experience with just 82 guests onboard, ideal for travellers wanting a closer look at the wonders of ancient Egypt. As a sister ship to Viking’s growing Nile collection, Thoth blends modern comfort with understated elegance, creating the perfect home base for the Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.
Viking’s chairman and CEO Torstein Hagen welcomed the ships with pride, noting they’re part of the company’s steady and ambitious expansion. And ambitious it is, Viking plans to add 23 more river ships by 2028 and another 10 ocean ships by 2031. If you’re dreaming of future adventures, chances are Viking already has a ship in the works for it.
These two new vessels mark another milestone for a brand that keeps giving travellers more ways to explore, unwind and soak in those golden-hour views, exactly the kind we love to chase.
