One lucky couple discovered that their ordinary cruise day was anything but ordinary, thanks to a very special envelope packed with eight surprises.
Virgin Voyages has reached an impressive milestone, celebrating two million Sailors choosing to holiday with the cruise line. And, true to its playful style, it marked the occasion with a surprise that was anything but your usual terminal welcome!
On 24 September 2026, Jason and his wife Patricia arrived at Terminal V in Miami, expecting an ordinary sailing aboard Resilient Lady. Jason, a seven-time Virgin Voyages Sailor from Leland, North Carolina, had no idea that his cruise day was about to take a rather spectacular turn.
Instead of simply heading towards their ship, the couple found themselves surrounded by music, confetti, cheers and the cruise line's Happenings Cast.
The star of the show? An oversized Big Red Envelope bearing the words “One in Two Million. A Celebration for You.”
And what was inside? Let's just say this was one envelope that certainly wasn't full of bills!
Eight surprises and one very happy couple
Virgin Voyages packed Jason and Patricia's Big Red Envelope with an impressive collection of treats, including a luxury suite upgrade, experiences ashore and a rather exciting trip across the Atlantic.
Here's what the couple received:
A Gorgeous Suite upgrade: The Tom Dixon-designed suite came complete with a bottle of Moët. Not a bad way to settle into holiday mode!
A London getaway for two: Premium return flights to London Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic and a three-night stay at Virgin Hotels London Shoreditch, a five-star boutique hotel.
A Key West Shore Thing: A complimentary shore excursion, with options ranging from a cruiser bike tour to parasailing.
A Bimini beach cabana: A cabana at Virgin Voyages' Beach Club at Bimini, giving the couple a special spot to enjoy the cruise line's private island escape.
A tattoo or spa treatment: Jason and Patricia could choose a permanent souvenir from Squid Ink, the onboard tattoo shop, or a restorative treatment at Redemption Spa.
A personal letter from Richard Branson: A message from the Virgin founder was included in the envelope.
An invitation to Sisters at Sea: The couple received an invitation to the fleet-wide gathering taking place in February 2027.
With a suite upgrade, a beach cabana, a London break and even the option of a tattoo, this was certainly a milestone celebration with plenty packed into it!
From four- and five-night cruises to a global fleet
Virgin Voyages launched in 2021, initially sailing four- and five-night itineraries from Miami. Since then, it has grown into a four-ship fleet with a global presence.
The cruise line has also been named Travel + Leisure's No. 1 mega-ship ocean cruise line for the fourth consecutive year, according to the announcement.
Reaching two million Sailors is a significant moment for the brand, and the celebrations extended beyond the ships themselves. Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Hotels also joined in, helping make the milestone a wider Virgin family affair.
After all, if you're going to celebrate two million holiday choices, why stop at the gangway?
First Mates get their moment, too
Virgin Voyages was also keen to recognise the travel advisers who have helped the cruise line grow. Known as First Mates, these advisers have played a part in bringing Sailors on board and helping the brand reach its milestone.
Nereida, a Florida-based First Mate, was among those receiving a special celebration of her own.
Her prize package included a third voyage, a Key West Shore Thing, a behind-the-scenes tour, and a choice of a Redemption Spa treatment or credit for Squid Ink.
She will also receive a complimentary Supper Club Series dinner show at The Manor, a Bar Tab of just over £150, a cabana in Bimini's Grove, a letter from Richard Branson and an invitation to Sisters at Sea.
It sounds like Nereida has a few very good reasons to start looking forward to her next sailing!
Sailing Club benefits extended through 2028
There's good news for returning Virgin Voyages Sailors, too.
As part of the two million milestone celebrations, the cruise line is extending its Sailing Club benefits, including Blue Extras and Deep Blue Extras, through 31 December 2028.
That gives eligible Sailors more time to enjoy the benefits associated with their loyalty to the brand.
Virgin Voyages has also brought back its popular Status Match programme, allowing travellers to apply to match eligible loyalty status from more than 35 airline, hotel and cruise loyalty programmes.
Applications opened on 24 September and can be submitted until 31 October 2026. Once approved, travellers have until 31 October 2026 to book their Virgin Voyages sailing.
Anyone considering taking advantage of the programme should check the cruise line's official terms and eligibility requirements before applying.
Two million reasons to celebrate
From the early supporters known as Sea Blazers to returning Sailors and the First Mates helping people discover the brand, Virgin Voyages says its two million milestone represents two million occasions when someone chose to holiday with the cruise line.
And while Jason and Patricia received the headline-making Big Red Envelope, the extended loyalty benefits and returning Status Match programme give other travellers something to celebrate, too.
Two million Sailors is quite the achievement for a cruise line that launched just five years ago. If this celebration is anything to go by, Virgin Voyages certainly knows how to mark a milestone.
As for Jason and Patricia, they arrived expecting a cruise. They left the terminal celebration with a suite upgrade, a London escape and a collection of surprises to remember.
Now that's what you call an envelope worth opening!
Until next time, keep dreaming of your next cruise.
