Cruising with Care: Fred. Olsen Protects Norway’s Fjords One Beach at a Time
Crew members roll up their sleeves to keep Norway’s fjords as stunning as the sunsets
Ahoy happy sailors!
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is proving that a love for the ocean goes beyond beautiful sunsets and calm seas, it’s about protecting the waters we sail, too. Recently, crew members aboard Borealis and Bolette teamed up with Visit Eidfjord for a hands-on beach clean in Eidfjord, Norway, one of the line’s scenic ports of call.
On the 16th and 31st August, 87 crew members got involved across three local sites, collecting litter and helping preserve the natural beauty of Norway’s fjords. It’s the kind of initiative that shows Fred. Olsen’s commitment to sustainability isn’t just talk, it’s action, with crew members actively contributing to environmental stewardship.

Dominic Simpson, Sustainability Manager at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, shared:
"We’re incredibly proud of how many of our crew members got involved in Visit Eidfjord’s beach clean. At Fred. Olsen, we care deeply about protecting the oceans we sail and the destinations we visit. Seeing our teams take part in sustainability efforts like this not only shows that commitment in action, but also helps embed environmental stewardship into our everyday culture – helping us to drive real, lasting change."
This beach clean aligns with the line’s wider sustainability goals, including its partnership with the Carbon Literacy Project, which trains shoreside teams in carbon awareness. Together, these efforts demonstrate how Fred. Olsen is educating and empowering its employees to make environmentally responsible choices, both at work and in their personal lives.
For cruise lovers who enjoy the view from the deck, it’s reassuring to know that the same hands helping you spot breath-taking sunsets are also rolling up their sleeves to protect the seas you cruise through. It’s sustainability in action, and a reminder that the best sunsets are worth protecting.
