Viking Expands in Asia with New Mekong River Beauty
Viking just dropped some big news for river cruise fans—say hello to the brand-new Viking Tonle, fresh off the shipyard and ready to double the fun on Southeast Asia’s Mekong River.
A Ship Made for the Mekong
The Viking Tonle was designed specifically for the Mekong and the line’s 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary through Vietnam and Cambodia. She’s joining her sister ship, the Viking Saigon, which means Viking now has twice the capacity for curious travelers who want to soak up the region’s rich history and culture.
Onboard, the Tonle checks all the boxes:
80 guests in 40 outside staterooms, each with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors (hello, French balcony views!).
Elegant Scandinavian design that keeps things light, airy, and oh-so-Viking.
A pool, spa, and fitness center—because a little balance never hurts.
And of course, the open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck, perfect for that golden-hour toast as the Mekong drifts by.

Viking’s Big Picture
This new arrival is just one piece of Viking’s bigger growth story. The company has 25 more river ships on order through 2028 and plans to welcome 10 more ocean and expedition ships by 2031. That’ll bring the fleet to 112 river ships and 23 ocean/expedition vessels—plenty of options for wherever your wanderlust may lead.
For now, though, the spotlight’s on the Mekong. With the Viking Tonle in the water, there’s never been a better time to explore the temples, markets, and timeless villages of Vietnam and Cambodia—with a cocktail in hand and the river breeze at your side.
