Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Liverpool Cruise Port Launch Community and Sustainability Programme for 2026

Setting Sail on Sustainability: Fred. Olsen and Liverpool Join Forces

If you love seeing the cruise industry give back to the places it calls home, there’s some exciting news sailing in from the UK. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Liverpool Cruise Port have announced a new partnership for 2026 focused on community engagement and sustainability initiatives along Liverpool’s iconic waterfront.

The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between the cruise line and the port, with Liverpool serving as an important homeport and destination for Fred. Olsen ships for more than two decades. Now, both partners are taking that connection a step further with a year-long programme designed to deliver real benefits for the local community and maritime sector.

A Year of Maritime Awareness and Community Action

Throughout 2026, the partnership will support a number of national and international awareness days, pairing meaningful activity with positive social impact.

Planned initiatives include projects aligned with:

  • Women in Maritime Day

  • International Day of the Seafarer

  • International Coastal Clean-Up Day

These efforts will focus on highlighting the importance of the maritime workforce while also helping protect the waterfront environment that plays such a vital role in Liverpool’s identity.

Supporting the Local Community

The programme will also include a series of community-focused initiatives designed to support local wellbeing and safety.

Among the projects planned are support for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, the installation of community defibrillators, and ongoing efforts to enhance health, safety and wellbeing across the port estate.

To make sure these initiatives truly benefit the city, the partnership will work closely with key regional organisations including Liverpool City Council, Mersey Maritime, Peel Ports and Sefton Council through its Green Sefton programme.

Celebrating Liverpool’s Maritime Heritage

According to Liverpool Cruise Port’s General Manager John Mawer, the programme reflects the city’s strong maritime roots and the responsibility that comes with them.

He highlighted that the partnership with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will help deliver community initiatives that focus on sustainability, inclusion and engagement while showcasing the best of Liverpool’s famous waterfront.

For Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, the announcement is also about recognising the deep connection the company has built with the city over the years.

CEO Samantha Stimpson said Liverpool has played a key role in the cruise line’s operations for more than twenty years, adding that partnering with local organisations helps ensure support reaches projects that can make a meaningful and lasting difference.

More Updates to Come in 2026

As the initiatives roll out across the year, both Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Liverpool Cruise Port plan to share regular updates highlighting milestones, achievements and the impact these projects are having across the community.

For cruise fans who love Liverpool as a departure port, or simply enjoy seeing the industry support the places it visits, it’s a partnership that promises to make a positive splash throughout 2026.
