Holland America Line Reveals 2027–2028 South America & Antarctica Cruises with Longer Voyages

Nieuw Amsterdam leads the 2027–2028 season with voyages up to 41 days across South America and Antarctica

If you’re ready to go further than the usual cruise route, Holland America Line has just unveiled a season that’s all about longer journeys, deeper exploration, and some of the most dramatic scenery on the planet. The 2027–2028 South America and Antarctica programme puts extended itineraries front and centre, with voyages designed to slow things down and dial up the discovery.

Leading the way is Nieuw Amsterdam, making her debut in South America with sailings ranging from 14 up to an impressive 41 days.

Nieuw Amsterdam Leads a New Era of Extended Voyages

For the first time, Nieuw Amsterdam will sail this part of the world, offering guests more choice and more time ashore. The ship brings additional stateroom options, along with a mix of dining and enrichment venues designed to reflect the destinations visited along the way.

On board, guests can enjoy favourites such as Tamarind and Morimoto by Sea, alongside destination-led programming that brings South America and Antarctica to life at sea.

A Season Built for Slower, Deeper Travel

Every itinerary in this collection is 14 days or longer, reflecting a clear shift towards more immersive cruising. The season begins earlier than previous years, opening up even more opportunities to explore the region in depth.

Destinations span an extraordinary range, from the Amazon River and the Chilean Fjords to Antarctica’s icy landscapes and some of South America’s most iconic coastal cities.

The 26-Day Legendary Inca Coast Voyage

One of the standout sailings is the 26-day Inca Coast: Mexico & Latin America Legendary Voyage, sailing from Vancouver to San Antonio.

Highlights include:

  • Overnights in Manta (Quito), Ecuador and Callao (Lima), Peru

  • Calls across Central and South America, including Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Chile

  • A rare chance to cross the Equator by sea

  • Cultural highlights including access to Machu Picchu

Scenic Cruising at Its Most Dramatic

This season includes nine dedicated scenic cruising experiences, putting the focus firmly on the journey itself.

Standout moments include:

  • A four-day Antarctic Experience

  • Glacier Alley and the Beagle Channel

  • Chile’s dramatic fjords

  • Sailing past the vast Pío XI Glacier

It’s a reminder that sometimes the view from the ship is just as memorable as the destinations themselves.

Iconic Experiences Beyond the Coastline

Holland America Line is also expanding its overland adventures, giving guests the chance to explore further inland.

Travellers can venture to Machu Picchu, stepping into the heart of Incan history, or take on a Galápagos Islands overland experience, where wildlife encounters range from giant tortoises to blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas.

Key Itinerary Highlights

The season also features a strong line-up of extended voyages, including:

  • 28-Day Legendary Amazon Explorer aboard Zuiderdam, roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale, exploring deep into the Amazon with overnight stays in Manaus

  • 14–15 Day South America Pathways between Buenos Aires and San Antonio (Santiago), featuring Glacier Alley, Cape Horn and the Beagle Channel

  • 17-Day Inca & Panama Canal Discovery, including overnights in Lima and Panama City

  • 22-Day South America & Antarctica voyages, spending multiple days in Antarctica with scenic cruising through the Drake Passage

  • Collectors’ Voyages, combining sailings for longer, back-to-back exploration with minimal repetition

A Season Defined by Destination-Driven Cruising

Across the board, this deployment reflects a clear focus on meaningful travel, longer voyages, fewer rushed stops, and more time to connect with each region. From rainforest rivers to polar ice fields, it’s a programme designed for travellers who want to see more, experience more, and take it all in at a gentler pace.
